Design and Concept:
In Terra: New Horizons, we set out to craft a world that feels simultaneously breathtaking and perilous, where the forces of nature seem impossibly large, and every step taken feels like an expedition into the unknown. The central idea behind this world is to create an environment where everything—be it the land, the creatures, or the weather—poses a challenge to the humans who navigate it, making the world itself a constant test of survival and wonder.
Drawing inspiration from the vastness of our own planet, as well as the unique and bizarre organisms that inhabit it, Terra exaggerates elements from real life, giving them a grand, almost surreal scale. From towering plants that dwarf even the tallest skyscrapers to colossal creatures that blur the line between fantasy and reality, the landscape was designed to evoke a sense of awe and trepidation. Our goal is to make humans feel like microscopic organisms in this new world, where natural structures dominate the surroundings and create an atmosphere of both beauty and danger.
The environment itself is influenced by iconic films like Avatar, How to Train Your Dragon 3, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, and Big Hero 6, which all portray environments that are as visually stunning as they are unpredictable. These films inspired us to imagine a world where nature is not just a backdrop, but an active force that shapes the experience of living within it.
With Terra: New Horizons, we aim to explore new possibilities in world-building, emphasizing the vastness of both the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it. By blending elements of the familiar with the fantastical, we hope to create an environment that is both a breathtaking spectacle and a constant reminder of nature’s raw power.
